Leonard Dean Toman, 91 of West Lafayette, IN passed away at Clinton House Rehabilitation Center in Frankfort, IN on June 9, 2023. Leonard was born in Tippecanoe County, IN on August 12, 1931 to Osie and Charles Toman. He attended Klondike High School in West Lafayette, IN.
Leonard married Marilyn Harbolt-Polley on December 25, 1949. Together they had four children, Linda, Cathy, Richard & Alan. He later married Lynne Hurst on January 13, 1972. They had two children, James and Deanna. He held many occupations throughout his life. He worked as a butcher at Standard Grocery in Lafayette, IN, and helped to set up other grocery stores in the surrounding area. He was a TV repairman and avid auto mechanic & salesman. He was an entrepreneur and ran a mowing service & tool rental business. He performed contracting construction work at Purdue University. Leonard was a proud member of the Monticello and Lafayette, IN communities. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Meat Cutters Union, and FOP in Monticello, IN.
Leonard deeply loved his large extended family and enjoyed numerous hobbies such as playing cards, caring for his land, telling jokes, fishing, boating, racing cars, bowling, and vacationing with family. He always had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs. He was known for having a sweet tooth, and one of his favorites was Mary-Lou Donuts. A good day was one that was filled with family & friends gathering together, whether for a “cold beverage”, a celebration or an impromptu cook out.
Leonard is survived by four of his children, Cathy Katz-Hardy (David), Richard Toman (Josephine), James Toman (Candy), Deanna Oliver (Travis), and was predeceased by son Alan, and daughter Linda. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at Tippecanoe Memory Garden’s Chapel, West Lafayette, IN on Thursday June 15th, 2023.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM with funeral services at 3:00 PM in the Chapel, and a following graveside service at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
