Debra “Debbie” Jacobs, 69, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 4, 2024. Debbie was born in Brazil, Indiana, on January 19, 1955, the daughter of Howard Haviland Sr. and Jacqueline “Jackie” (DuChesne) Haviland.
Debbie was married to Thomas Watkins Sr. from 1975 to 1984, during that time they had their son Thomas Watkins Jr. and remained friends until his passing in 2018. Debbie and Bruce Jacobs shared over 30 years of love and adventures together and married on November 28, 2008. She worked for 22 years in Dr. Dickerson’s office. As a past member of the Rainbow Girls and the Order of the Eastern Star, Debbie embodied the spirit of community and sisterhood. Debbie enjoyed nurturing flowers and attending car shows. Above all, she loved being around people, her friendly nature ensuring she never knew a stranger.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Bruce E. Jacobs; son, Thomas M. (Julie) Watkins Jr; siblings, Howard “Buzz” (Sandra) Haviland, Tammy (Jim) Liber; four grandchildren; three nieces, Angie Comer, Jennifer (Rob) Weston, and Julie Sims; great-niece, Abby Weston; great-nephews, Luke Weston and Taylor Sims; and a great-great Niece; Audrey “DoodleBug” Claypool.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents; the father of her son, Thomas Watkins Sr.; and an infant brother; Robert “Bobby” Haviland.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Tippecanoe Funeral Chapel 3631 Morehouse Road, West Lafayette, Indiana. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Tippecanoe Funeral Chapel. The family asks that you wear purple, as it was Debbie’s favorite color. Burial will follow.
