Alverta Devere Brown, 98, of rural Marion, passed away at her residence on Monday March 4, 2024. She was born September 25,1925 in Kosciusko County to the late George and Bertha (Shaffer) Hyser. She lived in South Whitley for 18 years then lived in Ft. Wayne for four years while she was working for General Electric during WWII. On April 21,1946 in Huntington, she married the love of her life, Homer “Jay “ Bud” Brown and he preceded her in death February 23, 2003 and now they are together,again. They lived in Huntington for 16 years and moved to Marion in 1962 where she was a member of the Sunnycrest United Methodist Church. She is a member of the Sympathy Club at General Motors.
Alverta enjoyed gardening, dancing, hiking and spending casual times with her friends and family. Enjoyed listening and attending Elvis Presley concerts. She was a wonderful cook & hostess who was well known for her mile-high dream pies that were loved by her son-in-law Garry and all who tasted them. Alverta loved Jesus, her Lord & Savior whom she felt really close to. She is survived by her daughter Diana Davis of Jonesboro, her son Rex J. (Sandy) Brown of Oklahoma City, OK. Her grandchildren Todd Davis, Indianapolis, Lisa (Ronnie) Farrer, Port Charlotte FL, Marie (Jacob) Sanders, Oklahoma City OK, and Shaun Brown, Oklahoma City OK, great-grandchildren Alanna Winters ,Marion IN, Jaclyn Sanders and Baylee Sanders, Oklahoma City OK, step great- granddaughter Brianna Cutler, St Cloud, FL. Also survived by special neighbors who were very good friends, John & Cathy, who were always so very helpful. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Garry Lee Davis and step great grandson Justin Farrer, as well as her best friends Ralph & Dean Burnworth.
Funeral services will be at noon on Friday March 8,2024 in the Memory Chapel at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion, IN with Pastor Rob Clark officiating. Entombment will follow. Family and Friends may call from 11am until the time of services at the chapel.
